ECON 575 is a one semester course which is suitable for students with or without A Level economics or equivalent. It aims to cover the basic theories of microeconomics and macroeconomics. It is an integrated introduction to the analysis of individual firms and markets, as well as aggregate economic variables. These include demand and supply, consumer and firm behaviour, production and cost, market structure, national income accounting, economic growth, unemployment, inflation, money supply and demand for money.
This course is essentially designed for the graduate students during their preparatory semester to give them background information on economics. Main objective is to provide an introduction to the field of economics, giving them the tools of think critically about economic issues. By the end of this course, students should be able to know the definitions of various economic variables, such as demand, supply, inflation, economic growth, market etc. The purpose of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the economic theory that can be used in decision making problems.
